Diane Burkhardt & Lee Liptak
Location: friends home
From Diane's perspective - Lee and I were neighbors for 3 years until we started dating.

We lived 29' 10" from each other, if you measure from my garage door, across the driveway to his garage door. There was not a lot of "goings on" that werent noticed by each other over athis 3 year period. When we had our garage doors up we could see into each others kitchens. And our garage doors were up a lot because we both like fresh air. It always seemed to me that he had 'lots of girlfriends". This fascinated me, though I kept my distance and had no intention of getting involved with my neighbor. Now I know that most of these women were his friends, family and co-workers - women who knew him and appreciated him for the wonderful man he is.

So how did we finally get together.... If you ask me, I am the one that should get all the credit! Last June there was a brief period of mutual fliration across the driveway. So one night when I saw that his red corvette was not parked in his garage as usual, I walked into his garage, asked him where it was, and then before I left, I gave him a kiss on the lips and suggested we go out sometime! He eventually responded to my invitation after considerable thought and after we talked about not being nasty to each other if we found it to be mutually intolerable to date! After all, we were neighbors and it was risky to date.

Of course, he deserves credit for perserverance because my mother was on our first date (she stayed in town a day later than planned). . And inspite of having to sit between us at an evening folk and bluegrass concert and being the subject of several digs by my mom, he did not vanish afterwards or close his garage door for good. Even after that he suffered much torture by my family....grueling hikes, deflated air mattresses, cold weather family trips, questions and probings (no one is good enough for my sister, said my brother)....and still he hung in there.

So our story is one of a short distance relationship, driven forward by a red corvette, an unexpected kiss and a very long family interview process. Happy to say, he passed all the tests and is definitely a keeper!
On August 1st, we will have a small, casual wedding at the home of Rick and Lynn Maloney. The pastors conducting the ceremony will be Ken and Pam Ingold, the pastors at the church we attend. (Church of Rancho Bernardo). In attendance will be family and a few friends.

The location of the ceremony is special to us because its where we attend a home bible study on Tuesday nights. And it is where our relationship really began to deepen. We knew early in our dating that we were very compatible in our life interests. We love the same food, music, activities and we love to laugh and have fun. But when Lee asked me to attend his church and then suggested that we go to a bible study together, it was at this bible study where we grew to know each other in deeper ways. We came to know that not only did we love life the same way, but we also shared the same spiritual and emotional values and wanted our lives and our relationship to be God honoring. So it is fitting that our ceremony will be held in the home where God shed his light into our hearts about Him, where our relationship took deeper root and where we also shared in lots of laughter and prayer with new friends who watched us fall in love with each other and God.

5-9pm August 2nd

First of all, as to attire….. we are absolutely serious about casual dress. It will be August, and it will probably be hot! There is also nice patio on the roof to hang out on. So casual, cool dress is going to help you have more fun! Besides, Lee and I will be casual and we don’t want anyone looking better dressed than the Bride and Groom!!

And we will give you a hint about our party theme – it’s HAWAIIAN/TROPICAL.. Feel free to wear shorts, a moo-moo, a loud Hawaiian shirt or a grass skirt!!!

As to the location….At my dear friend Clay Laing's hoome. 510 C, Coronado Take the 5 south, pass downtown, take the Coronado Bridge into Coronado, as you go past the toll booths, slow down (as police are strict about the 25 mph) and stay on your left, navigate a few curves and then turn left onto C Street, go a couple blocks, and then park on the street….501 C is on the right side of the street BEHIND a small, single story, pale yellow house on the street…there is a white gate to the left of the small house…go through the gate, down the path, past the ferns and come in through the front door…..if you get lost, call Clay, it’s his house 619-392-3528 and he can be your human GPS.

As to food….we decided to keep it simple and in line with the tropical theme and two native Southern Californians getting married …there will be the makings for fish and chicken tacos! We will have some healthy and unhealthy snacks (carrots vs brownies). We will also have wine, beer, water and soda to drink. If you want to bring your favorite bottle of wine or munchies or anything else yummy to share, please feel free. No donations of food or drinks will be turned away as we are expecting a LARGE, hungry and unruly crowd!

As to how long you stay at the reception…that is up to you. Doors officially open at 5pm and we have scheduled the festivities to officially end at 9pm. We are expecting lots of people and that they will show up and leave at their convenience. If we are having a good time, we might not close down the action until midnight! We only plan on getting married to each other once, so we are gonna make the most of it!!! And Coronado is also a great place to visit…..shopping, the Coronado Hotel, the beach…so you might want to plan to spend some time, before or after the party, on the Island enjoying its ambiance!

Mahalo. See you August 2nd.

Alot of people have asked us about our homeymoon as to where and when we are going...Since our families will be in town for the and after the wedding, we will not be going on our honeymoon until September so we can hang out with them while they are here. But on Sept 3rd we will be heading to Maui, and that is when we will get to use all the generous gifts toward our Maui trip.

In closing, we want to say how grateful we are for all our friends, and are touched by how excited and supportive everyone is about our marriage. We defintely share your amazement. I know for a fact that neither Lee nor I ever imagined when we met over 4 years ago that WE would fall in love and get married! I thought for sure I would be retiring with my cats in tow, and I think Lee figured it would be his Corvette and He till death or transmission failure ended that relationship!!

So thanks to all of you that have taken the time to read this website, thanks to all of you that have shared your best wishes with us, and thanks for being a part of our wonderful journey. I am more than confident that Lee and I will truly be happily married until "death do us part".

I will be posting wedding pictures on this website later on, so stay tuned for those picts!!!
